Interview Research Storyboard

I will be taking inspiration from this interview that I have shown in this storyboard. From looking at the storyboard, you can see that it usually contains medium close ups and two shots, which allows us to see the two people within the interview. I will hopefully be taking on these techniques, or techniques that are very similar, within my own interview. I will be creating an interview as a form of audience research, so I can develop my ideas for my magazine and ancillary products. I will be asking a range of questions that revolve around my current ideas for my magazine, and also around what ideas my audience has that I can take on and incorporate in my research and then initially in my final products. Hopefully this task will help me be more organized in the long run, and allow my products to be the best they can be for my chosen theme and my target audience.

Primary Audience and Secondary Audience Profile

In class we all drew an example of our primary and secondary readers, to allow us to get a better idea of who we are selling our products to. I decided that my primary audience ranged from women aged 17 to 25. These consumers are also probably students or mostly in part time work. These people have the time to read a fashion magazine, and also care more about the subject than other ages and genders. These young ages will also be hugely into social media, and be more knowledgable on trends and what is popular in the social circle.
I also wanted to add my secondary audience, as older some may also be interested in trying to be more educated in fashion trends. This audience would be over 25, and have a stable career, and probably children. These consumers have busy lives, however, if they find a minute for themselves, my magazine may be one of the read they would prefer.

Reconstruction 2 - Vogue

This is my second reconstruction that I have created, and I have based it off the iconic print : Vogue. In the original issue that I have featured on the left, it features model and Actress Cara Delvigne, who is huge in the fashion and modelling industry, this being the reason I kept her image within my own reconstruction. When reconstructing my own design, I wanted to carry on the original cover's house theme, to allow it to look as real and as professional as possible, so that it would almost be duplicate to the primary cover. I have kept all of the fonts and colours alike, to keep the layout mature and similar to Vogues own techniques also. I also chose another strong and bold image to interperate the original, so that it is incredibly eye catching to the consumer. While doing this, I have learned a range of new skills and also a lot more knowledge of what I will have to think about when coming to create my own front cover. For example, I know now that house themes and layouts are incredibly important to think about before going into Photoshop and creating my products. I must plan ahead and think out what I plan to do with all my pages before starting to create my content. Also, by doing this, I have refreshed my memory of the skills and tools that photoshop provides, and therefore I am more prepared with the software for when it comes to producing my real work.

Reconstruction 1 - Prada

Prada+FW+2013+billboard.jpg

This is my reconstruction of one of the particular products that I will be producing. As I have said in earlier tasks, billboards are perfect for quickly and effectively advertising a product, and for this reason, they don't actually contain a lot of information on, just a simple tag line or image is sufficient as long as it catches the eye. With this billboard that i have chosen, I believe that the images in the original are strong and bold, which allows the product to catch the consumer's attention. It also gives a fresh and fashionable look, which was clearly the intention as Prada is a huge fashion brand, that probably strives for this effect in all of its products.

I have tried to incorporate the same idea into my own reconstruction which is shown below the original. I have chosen two images that have a similar visual effect, so that both boards look almost the same. When editing on Photoshop I also made sure that I picked a font that was hugely similar to Prada's own dominant font

Inspirational Texts Deconstructions - Website - Elle

I have chosen Elle website as, along with the print version, it is hugely popular and holds great inspiration for my own work. Like Vogue website it definitely has a polished and modern look. Unlike cosmopolitan, it shows a lot more content, and at larger level, as we are clearly shown the dominant images more promptly. A lot of the fonts continue yo stay the same or are similar to one another, to carry on the professional outcome of the website design. The colours are vibrant and attract the target audience as they look clean and futuristic. Due to this polished look, women from 18-45 years will find the website aesthetically pleasing, but also easy to follow, and due to the labeling of categories, it is easy as ever to find exactly what you are looking for. I hope to influence a lot of these features into my own web pages, especially the layout of this website, and their use of colours, as I personally think that this particular factor makes the product look mature and professional to the reader.

Inspirational Texts Deconstructions - Website - Cosmopolitan

Cosmopolitan in print and online takes on a great role as a fashion product, however it also take on another huge role by including a huge amount of content on lifestyle. As the product is aimed at women, article topics would range from fashion, beauty, body, love and sex, entertainment, work life and so on. This is a perfect print for the modern day women. Even though not solely fashion and beauty, it is definitely one of the most popular products on the market. Again, with celebrity content, Cosmopolitan already reaches out to readers who may be interested in celebrity media. The website in general looks quite simple, but includes numerous interesting articles that women can appreciate and relate to. Like Vogue, the website has a simple white background, which includes various sub images and a few dominant images which determines the importance of the article. By the older looking theme and the chosen content, I would establish that this website reaches out to women from 18 years to 40 years.

Inspirational Texts Deconstruction - Websites - Vogue

Vogue website has a extreme polished and professional effect. It definitely looks aesthetically pleasing, and reflects the fashionable theme. The webpage has a back color of white, which allows other colours on top to look bold and to stand out to the viewer. Dominant and sub images are shown and determined by the sizes of them on the page. The dominant articles or features have been presented through a large image or title to get across to the reader that this particular feature is of importance, or is a new aspect or topic of the website. The themes of the website include the likes of: News, Fashion shows, Trends, People & Parties, Beauty, Arts & Lifestyle, Street Chic. All of these meet the expectations of a professional Fashion website, and supplies a huge amount of information for the reader to get a greater understanding of what Vogue is about. The simple but original house theme is shown throughout, and is easy to work around the content, which is helpful to the reader. I definitely want to show range of these aspects in my own work, especially the professional appearance and simplistic layout. However, I plan to differ mine so that my website may offer more regional information.

Update Of Targets

This lesson I am going to aim to start another set of deconstructions. I have already completed three explanations of my chosen magazines that I wish to take inspiration from. I will now go onto researching websites that I believe will help me create my own work after all of my research and planning. At the moment, I don't have a clear idea on what websites to chose or look for, so hopefully by the end of the lesson I will have a greater understanding of what I'm taking inspiration from.

Inspirational Text Deconstructions - Magazines - Glamour

Glamour magazine is another leading print in the fashion journalism field. This layout and house theme definitely has a fun and exciting feel to it, as we can notice from some of the front covers shown in this mood-board. The sell lines on the cover range from fashion articles, celebrity articles, and also articles that are created to help the modern day woman, with advice for all different and various themes, from fashion and beauty, to men problems! The main image can reach out to the target audience (who would range from 20-45), as popular female celebrities will always be featured. The fonts and colors are bold and vibrant and carry style and attitude, to allow readers to give attention to the product and therefore buy it, as it looks appealing to read. The articles also include not only fashion but beauty also, like makeup, perfume, and beauty products, this may be an element that I would want to include into my own work.
When we first look at the masthead, we can agree that it stands out and makes an impact on the page. There is a slight difference from other prints, as from this we can notice that it doesn't look as chic as Vogue or ELLE. Saying this, the magazine is focused on a larger realm and doesn't focus solely on the fashion genre. The sell lines also look and sound quirkier than other prints, which expresses the mood and fun attitude of the magazine. The colour scheme also mirrors this while still making it look presentable and enjoyable for the reader.

Inspirational Text Deconstructions - Magazines - Elle

ELLE  is a hugely popular magazine with numerous global editions. This product has an older look and style compared to Teen Vogue, and carries a chic and professional vision. The target audience can vary for this magazine, but would essentially go from 16-50 years.  Along with beauty and fashion articles, like many other prints, it includes articles about celebrities, which may be a vital factor when creating my four pages for my regional magazine. In this particular product, there seems to be a strong dominant presence of women, as there are no issues with men on the front cover, meaning that this magazine only associates with the female community. There is a clear house layout represented in the articles shown, which resembles and highlights the magazines maturity and professionalism. The main images are bold, effective, and carry a strong attitude, to possibly represent girl power. The sell lines relate to the content inside the magazine, and also relate to topics that would be relatable or associated to women and fashion culture.
The masthead is bold, and carries a chic, professional and mature look, which goes nicely against the content, layout and mood of the magazine. Along with this, main and normal sell lines seem to warp and fit perfectly around dominant and sub images, which allows the print to look aesthetically pleasing to the consumer, which again can represent the idea and beauty of fashion and its industry. To side with this, the chosen colour schemes also allow the reader to appreciate the content, as each cover or article has its own mood and ideas, while still keeping glossy and nicely set out, and also keeping up to the readers standards with every piece. Overall, ELLE definitely proves itself with its own design and content, and proves itself purely from its status that it is definitely a worthy fashion magazine of our time.

Inspirational Text Deconstructions - Magazines - Teen Vogue

Teen Vogue Magazine has aspired from the ongoing iconic print publication; Vogue magazine. This product empathizes with a younger audience, as guessed by the magazine name, and then also by the content we see in the magazine. Despite it being aimed at a teen audience, the design and professionalism can allow it to be appreciated by older women at the same time. The magazine is a global product, and is extremely popular all over the world. We can see from the mood-board that by the examples shown, the magazine uses bold and clear colours and content, to interest readers in the product and to also reflect the teen spirit and attitude . This print grabs the target audience's attention also by featuring popular celebrities on the front cover of the magazine, as they would be known to the teen culture, and therefore be appealing to teenagers who may not even be interested in fashion, but on the featuring celebrity.  The magazine in general looks glossy, rich, and aesthetically pleasing, all aspects that I would hope to pursue in all my products.
The masthead grasps the youthful and fun mood, which resembles and catches attention of the target audience, while still keeping the iconic style of Vogue. The sell lines can also be linked to this point, as again, it connects with the younger audience by using form and dialogue that the potential target audience will resonate with and appreciate.

Fall/Autumn Mood-board & Inspirations

As summer is just about coming to an end, all publications and brands will be planning out fall fashion. Huge designer brands may even be looking at this field months in advance. Therefore, it is beneficial to find inspiration for my own products, so that I am prepared for when writing my content and to plan my shoots. In this mood-board I produced, we can grab the sense of autumn and what it entails. Themes like dark makeup, wool clothing, bulky shoes and beanie hats are extremely popular for this time of year, and contribute hugely to the feeling of autumn. Occasions like Halloween and Bonfire Night are also part of this season, which would mean more contribution for darker themes in my work. Also, the colours that you can see in the mood-board are extremely important. Unlike summer, these colours are slightly mustier and have an old vintage look, which should be easy to portray in topics and themes in my work
